About Jen

Many women in midlife feel a sense of being stuck; I understand this because I have experienced it too.

My journey into coaching wasn't a sudden leap, but a gradual unfolding rooted in a deep desire to help others, a calling I first answered decades ago supporting individuals with developmental disabilities. For years, I poured my heart into this work, cherishing the connections and the value I brought to their lives and the community. However, as many in helping professions know, burnout is a constant shadow. I experienced it myself, more than once, often feeling trapped by the very identity I had built – the 'special' one, the 'angel.' But beneath that identity, a quiet discomfort began to grow, a sense that my values were shifting, and a longing for a new way to serve.

The perfect storm of the Covid-19 pandemic amplified this discomfort. Working tirelessly amidst constant understaffing, I felt the weight of responsibility and the stark contrast between my own growing mindfulness practices – those early morning meditations on handling the chaos – and the reality of the stressful, often judgmental environment I walked into each day. I was striving for calm, yet often left work feeling worse, acutely aware of the gap between who I wanted to be and how I was showing up.

This awareness, this growing discomfort, became the unlikely catalyst for a significant decision: leaving not just a job, but a career that had defined me for over 20 years. Unlike previous burnout episodes filled with fear and the desperate question of 'what else can I do?', this time, handing in my resignation brought a surprising sense of peace. I didn't have all the answers, but I trusted I would figure it out – a stark contrast to the indecisive person I had been for so long, especially after the profound impact of losing my father. Fear of making the 'wrong' decision had often paralyzed me, leading me to defer to others and avoid any potential conflict.

Looking back, I realize my family, like so many, had its share of challenges. Growing up navigating those 'emotional bumps and bruises' taught me to carry a heavy backpack of unresolved stuff, making even simple decisions feel monumental. The anxiety of saying or doing the wrong thing clouded my judgment and stifled my growth.

But even amidst the chaos, a spark of hope remained. I knew there had to be more than just feeling overwhelmed. That's when I found mindfulness meditation – a turning on of the light. I began to understand that inner peace wasn't something to chase externally but something to cultivate within. And the practice of gratitude shifted my perspective, helping me see glimmers of good even in tough times.

Now, as a mindfulness-based coach and meditation teacher, I empower women in midlife who might feel that same sense of being stuck, stressed, or uncertain. I understand the unique transitions of this stage of life, the re-evaluation of purpose, and the yearning for a more authentic path. My own journey, from feeling trapped in a career to navigating personal loss and the challenges of decision-making, has shown me that change is possible. It's taught me the profound power of self-compassion – that inner safety and acceptance we need to truly hear and trust our intuition. It's about progress, not perfection, and learning to set boundaries with that inner critic.

Through personalized coaching and accessible mindfulness practices, I guide women to awaken their inner presence, cultivate self-awareness, and confidently access their intuition for clearer, kinder decision-making. If there's one thing I want to impart, it's that decision-making, like mindfulness itself, is a practice. I still navigate moments of uncertainty, but now, I have the tools to reflect, to offer myself compassion, and to keep moving forward, trusting in my own ability to create a life of clarity and joy.
